On the 18th of September, SES in collaboration with PAX is organizing a short conference on the conflict in Ukraine. Together we are working together to increase the awareness and to promote the arrival of a solution for the conflict, as the war continues.
The war already killed over 10.000 civilians and another 24.000 were wounded. These numbers still rise every day, because the fighting in the Donbas region is not brought to a halt yet. Rebels who are supported by Russia do not acknowledge the Ukrainian government and now live in a so called unacknowledged area. PAX believes that the situations in Kosovo, Croatia and Georgia should serve as an example on how to handle with these situations. However International law is not unambiguously. On the one hand you have the right of self-determination, on the other hand the principle of territorial integrity. Which roles do other countries play and what do local and national government and organisaties do to stop the violence? What can we do? The experts that will be present will challenge you to come talk about it. A team of reputable experts will join us at Pakhuis de Zwijger, amongst them are: Pieter Feith (former Dutch diplomat who worked in Kosovo), Caecilia van Peski (dutch diplomat who did peace missions in Georgia and Ukraine), Robert Serry (former Dutch diplomat who worked in the Middle East, Afghanistan and Georgia) , Paata Zakareishvili (former-minister of Georgia), Katarina Kruhonja (peace activist from Croatia), Andrew Wilson (professor in Ukrainian Studies at University College London and a senior policy officer at the European Council of Foreign Relations) and Vesna Skare Ozbolt (former Minister of Justice in Croatia, member of the parliament and political advisor to the president of Croatia)
