SES CONFERENCE 2018: THE TRANSATLANTIC RELATIONSHIP UNDER PRESSURE
Cooperation in Uncertain Times
Every year the Study Association for European Studies (SES) organises a conference. This year, the conference will take place on Tuesday, 3rd of April (11:00-17:00) at CREA on the Roeterseiland campus in Amsterdam.
Traditionally the European Union and the United States are close allies. For decades this relationship has been almost taken for granted. However, since the election of Donald J. Trump as president of the United States things have changed. Reminding European NATO member states they should pay their contribution bills, openly supporting Eurosceptic movements like UKIP and Lega Nord and imposing tariff barriers on European exports to the US, the Trump presidency proofs to be a factor of discontinuity in Transatlantic affairs. How to perceive these events and how to proceed further with the Transatlantic relationship will be central themes of this conference. We will try get understanding by listening to a few keynote speeches, participating in seminars on four policy areas: climate, trade, NATO and migration and closing the day with a plenary debate.
Over the coming weeks we will introduce the speakers in this event. You can sign up for two out of four seminars:
