COMMITTEES

SES boasts 14 committees responsible for differing types of events. There's no doubt that at least one or two will spark your interest!

! Not all the committees have had the chance to take their photos yet, so some committees are still from last year (2024/2025)!

ACTIVITY

The Activity Committee is tasked with organising exciting and engaging events and activities for our members.

As part of the Activity Committee you have pretty much free reign to organise whatever you and your fellow committee members want, so you can be as creative and original as possible! The Activity Committee has organised some unforgettable events and has had some legendary members throughout the years, so you'd have some high expectations on you! No pressure, of course...

CAREER

The Career Committee is one of SES' academic focused committees. If you're part of this committee, you will help organise the traditional Career Dinner, in which you and your fellow committee members organise a dinner with former alumni, as well as experts and people with knowledge in all the majors that European Studies has to offer, such as Law, Economics, History, Culture and Politics.

CONFERENCE

The Conference Committee organises one of the most important academic events of the year, the yearly Conference in which the committee invites several speakers to hold an interactive lecture type of conference that deals with contemporary European issues/topics. As a member of the Conference Committee you will be in constant contact with potential speakers and will have to make use of excellent persuasion skills!  The Conference is no easy thing to organise so you will have to be very committed and hard working.

DEBATE

The Debate Committee is tasked with organising the SESMUN, which is just like the Conference, one of the biggest and most important academic events of the year. The SESMUN is a long event that requires a lot of preparation and an ability to improvise with a certain level of professionalism and seriousness. The Debate Committee is best suited for people who have a background in debating and organising an MUN, but it is by no means a requirement, and is also a perfect opportunity for debate beginners who wish to learn and have some fun debating.

EDUCATIONAL

The Educational Committee is tasked with organising a broad range of educational events, ranging from pub quizzes to collaborative trivia nights with other associations, to museum trips, movie nights, the SES book club, etc.

Just like the Activity Committee, the Educational Committee has free rein in what educational events they want to organise, and thus, a committee formed out of creative people is a great plus.

INTRODUCTION

At the start of the academic year, the Introduction Committee is tasked to organise several big events in order to draw in as many new SES members as possible. The Introduction Committee is formed around February and officially starts working at the beginning of the following academic year. As such, as a committee member, you will be required to prepare for the introduction period before and during the summer break. The introduction period is the busiest period of the year and is thus very stressful and demanding, but you are not alone! You will work very closely with the new Board, who will help you with all events.

MEDIA

The Media Committee is tasked with helping out the Internal in creating designs, editing media, photoshopping, photography, etc. For all things related to SES's social media and website posts. As a member of the Media Committee, you will need to be creative, have an eye for detail , and have some experience in the aforementioned things. It can be a very rewarding committee and a great way to hone your skills!

SPORTS

Members: Teresa Sá Machado, Stefano Laino, Georgia Ntini, Jilte Spigt, Lara Mägel. Hugh O'Connell

The Sports Committee is SES's newest committee and is tasked with coming up with new events and bringing them to life. These events can range from ice-skating to football watch parties, or even tournaments against other associations!

PARTY

The Party Committee, staying true to its name, organises several themed parties as well as themed borrels throughout the year, sometimes in collaboration with other associations and sometimes by itself. As a member of the Party Committee, you cannot be complacent, because as soon as one party is over, you're immediately looking to organise another one! You have pretty much free rein on how and where to have your party, but of course you can never forget about the must-haves, such as the Halloween Party, Christmas Party, Valentine's borrel, etc. As a member of the Party Committee, you have to be hardworking, social, and dedicated.

TRAVEL

From left to right: Ante Tomic, Kristina Trummer, Pari Meharunkar, Camille Duquesne, Sophie Ehniss, Annelies Taber, Twan Eegdeman

The Travel Committee is tasked with organising the biggest event of the year: The SES Study Trip. As a member of the Travel Committee, you will become part of the most demanding SES committee, which means that you will also have a lot of fun! You have to organise a multiday, multicity long trip for up to fifty people, where you and the Board are responsible for everything, ranging from activities to transport, to accommodation, etc. However, it is perhaps also the most rewarding committee because of how fulfilling it is to organise something this big and then have everyone tell you how much they loved it.

WEEKEND

From left to right: Bartosz Rybarczyk, Sophie Ehniss, Finn Meusemann, Tinjamin Raittila, Mimoza Kobayashi, Amelie Harding, and Sara Pring

Introduced by the 38th Board to replace the outdated concept of the Hitchhike Committee. The Weekend Committee is the second most demanding SES committee after the Travel Committee. The Weekend Committee was created for all those who wish to go on something like the Study Trip, but are not willing to invest that much time and money into such a long trip. You will not just be in charge of organising the Weekend Trip, but you will also be responsible during the trip, where you have to organise the activities, transport, accommodation, and safety for up to fifty people.

Special Committees

Apart from the committees shown above, we also have some committees that do not necessarily fall in the category of a "normal" committee, as they serve a different purpose.

ACTIVE MEMBERS WEEKEND

As a committee member you will also acquire organizational as well as administrative skills that will help you throughout your entire life, not just within SES. It also looks great on your resume!

Committee members often become good friends outside of the association, so you may make some great friendships by joining a SES committee. Most importantly, as a committee member, you automatically become an Active Member and thus earn the right to participate in the arguably best SES event of the year, the Active Members Weekend.
